Most gold jewellery in Kadapa is 22 karat. If you are thinking of selling, here is how to work out what it is worth today.
The simple formula
22K gold is 91.6% pure gold. So:
Value = net weight (g) × 0.916 × today's 24K rate per gram
- Net weight is the weight of the gold only — stones, beads, wax and threads are removed.
- 0.916 is the purity of 22K gold. If the purity test shows a different number (for example 0.90), use that.
- Today's 24K rate changes every day. Check the live gold rate in Kadapa.
A worked example
Say you have a 22K chain that weighs 20 g, with no stones, and the 24K rate is ₹10,000 per gram (an example figure — check today's real rate):
- Fine gold = 20 × 0.916 = 18.32 g
- Value = 18.32 × ₹10,000 = ₹1,83,200
If the same chain had 1 g of stones, the net weight would be 19 g and the value would fall to 19 × 0.916 × ₹10,000 = ₹1,74,040.
Why the offer may differ from your calculation
- Tested purity. Old or repaired jewellery is often slightly below 91.6%.
- Buying rate vs market rate. A buyer's rate per gram is usually a little below the live market rate, to cover testing and handling.
- Service charges. Ask about any charge before you agree — it should be shown clearly.
- Making charges are not paid back. When you bought the jewellery you paid making charges and GST; a buyer pays only for the gold content.
