Before you sell, it helps to know roughly what your old gold is worth. You only need three numbers.
Step 1: Find the net weight
Weigh the jewellery (the gross weight). Then subtract anything that is not gold — stones, beads, lac or wax filling, threads. What is left is the net weight.
Step 2: Find the purity
Use the karat stamp as a starting point:
- 24K ≈ 0.999
- 22K = 0.916
- 18K = 0.75
The final purity comes from the test done when you sell. Old or repaired jewellery is often a little lower than the stamp.
Step 3: Multiply by today's 24K rate
Fine gold (g) = net weight × purity
Value = fine gold × today's 24K rate per gram
Check the gold rate in Kadapa today before you calculate.
Examples (using an example rate of ₹10,000/g)
A 22K necklace, 30 g gross, 2 g stones
- Net weight = 28 g
- Fine gold = 28 × 0.916 = 25.648 g
- Value = 25.648 × ₹10,000 = ₹2,56,480
An 18K ring, 5 g, no stones
- Fine gold = 5 × 0.75 = 3.75 g
- Value = 3.75 × ₹10,000 = ₹37,500
Deductions to ask about
- A service charge (if any) — it should be shown clearly before you agree.
- The buying rate may be slightly below the live market rate.
- Making charges and GST paid when you bought the jewellery are not returned.
